We have moved all our boudoir portraits to a new private blog dedicated strictly to all the beautiful women who have come to us for this special portrait session.  This way the photos are protected from children’s eyes when families are looking at our regular portraits or weddings.

Tacoma Boudoir Photographer ~ “M”

If you had asked me a few years ago if I would be interested in boudoir photography I most likely would have said ‘no’ without truly giving it any consideration.  It wasn’t until we did our first session over a year ago that I realized what a beautiful service this was for women!  It’s a true celebration in your beauty, grace and womanhood.  It’s sexy, it’s a sense of freedom, a sense of beauty and more than anything it’s a HUGE confidence builder!

Mary is a mother of three and like most women she was starting to tell us what was ‘wrong’ with her.  We didn’t want to hear that!  We wanted to know what she loved about herself.  And like most women, she had to think about it a minute.  She did come up with some and as the night progressed her smile grew, her confidence grew and I’m pretty sure I saw her walking out a few feet off the ground, giddy and ready to conquer the world ahead of her.  That was probably the most beautiful sight for me.

“C’s” husband is preparing to deploy and she wanted to give him something special while he’s away from home.  It’s always so much fun for me to watch these women come into our studio in their jeans and feeling unsure to feeling confident and leaving feeling empowered.  Boudoir is honestly the ultimate gift we can give ourselves!

Many of our boudoir sessions are not shared as they request to remain private and we do honor those wishes, as hard as that is sometimes because these women are so gorgeous!

Why Boudoir?

When I (we) started Family Affair Photography my only vision for the business was that of photographing weddings and family events.  It’s such a rush of adrenalin and pure JOY photographing weddings.  To this day, I still get butterflies before each and every wedding.  Eagerly anticipating the day and the special moments.

Slowly we started adding the engagement sessions, family portraits, seniors, newborns and working with Operation: Love Reunited.  Each step has been a learning experience and added more joy to my life.  And maybe a small part of it was proving to my ex that YES, photography is an acceptable ‘job’ or career choice.  Not that I really have anything to ‘prove’ or that I could begin to consider photography a ‘job’. 

Then I  started to hear talk about boudoir photography from a couple other wedding photographers, my first thought was that’s not something I’d be interested in doing!  Keep in mind, before I ever photographed a wedding, I had said that was a profession I’d NEVER EVER consider! 

I mean really, WHY would I want to photograph girls in sexy lingerie?  I couldn’t think of a single reason … not ONE.  I figured, I’d be clueless on ‘posing’ and I was certainly clueless on feeling sexy.  While I know it when I see it in a photo.  It’s just not ‘me’.

Through years of abuse, I had a very low self esteem and self worth.   I simply couldn’t accept that I might be beautiful to someone.  IF I could go back in time,  I’d do a boudoir session in a heartbeat.  I’d fight to claim my sexiness and more importantly OWN my beauty! 

When a woman feels confident about herself, THAT is sexy!  It doesn’t matter what size you are, beauty comes in all sizes and shapes!  And something else to consider, an abusive type isn’t attracted to a confident woman.

At our first couple boudoir sessions, I watched these beautiful young women come in and share their body issues with us.  I only saw their beauty and was honestly shocked that they had any issues at all!  As the session continued, I’d see them all starting to own their beauty and sexiness!  It was like watching a butterfly come out of it’s cocoon right in front of your eyes.

What I hear now from them, is that they can’t wait to do it again!  AND they said they are now confident in themselves.  What a better gift could be given?  That my friend, is WHY I started boudoir photography.

Go ahead and tell yourself that you are doing it for your husband or so your grandkids can see what a hottie you were but the real reason to do a boudoir session is do it for YOU!

Kimberly has wanted to do a boudoir session for several years now and has always found an excuse not to do the session, a break-up, the desire to lose 5 pounds, not feeling confident and many other reasons.  She finally bit the bullet and did the session and now she’s eager about getting to do another boudoir session!  It truly is a lot of fun and a great confidence builder.  What are you waiting for?  Are you tired of making excuses, if so, let’s git ‘er done!

We had so much fun photographing Jessica when she came to her boudoir session and I’ve since been trying to get her in front of the camera again …. those eyes!  Unfortunately our schedules haven’t been the best for working with each other since she started her new job since this session.  Somehow, we will make it happen again. =)  Jessica brought a friend to her boudoir session who  helped in instigating mischief and merriment. Thank-you both for a fun evening.

Private Affair Photography is a sub-division of Family Affair Photography, we’ve added boudoir photography early this year, 2013.  I admittedly added boudoir with great hesitation.  After our first session when the customer walked out on cloud 9, I knew this is what I wanted to do!  What a great way to boost your self confidence.  I look at all these beautiful women who come in and I’m always amazed that they worry about how they look when all I see is beauty.  Every woman no matter her size or age has her own unique beauty to be proud of!

So your husband’s deployed?  How about sending him something to remind him of what he’s got waiting at home when he returns.  That’s exactly what “S” did for her soldier. 

She’s soft spoken, has a beautiful accent and she had fun in front of the camera!  I’m sure her husband is enjoying the gift of boudoir style portraits.  She was able to stay fairly modest and still look sexy for her husband during her mini boudoir session.

Tacoma Boudoir Photographer w/ “J”

We recently had a call out, looking for ladies who would be willing to allow us to use their photos to promote our growing boudoir photography segment.  J agreed and wanted to get some photos for her boyfriend who was out of the country.  What a better gift to give your man when he’s deployed our out of the country on business! 

And it doesn’t have to be a gift for a significant other in your life.  It can be a celebration of your own life, of being a beautiful woman!  I love watching the women come in to the studio starting to talk about what they don’t like about themselves and then leaving with a bounce in their step, a giggle knowing they have a secret, and of course this is a FUN session too.
